Our mission is to provide high quality plants at a reasonable price to the home gardener, and help educate them about the benefits of using native plants in the landscape. All of our native plants are nursery propagated, many on our property and in our greenhouse. We do not collect natives from the wild. We use organic methods in our greenhouse and on our property and do everything we can to conserve our precious resources. Please recycle your pots or return them to us for reusing or recycling.
About Northeast Natives & Perennials
Northeast Natives & Perennials was a long-time dream of mine, which with the love and help of my husband Dennis, son Larry and daughter-in-law Heather, came to fruition in May, 2007.
I left a 26 year Banking career in September, 2006 to pursue my dream of opening a perennial nursery focusing on native plants of the U.S. and mostly of the Northeastern U.S. My gardening knowledge is mostly self-taught, with over 30 year’s experience. In 2006, I did obtain my Master Gardener certification from the Penn State Cooperative Extension.
Over the last 14 years, my interest in native plants has grown. During our first three years in business, we offered about 75-80% native plants and the balance non-native. In 2010, we made the decision to transition our plant selection to 100% native plants. The reason for this is simple, so many of the introduced plants have become a problem, becoming invasive and overtaking our beautiful native plants. Our native wildlife and pollinators depend on the native plants to survive. Sometimes these invasive species take years to become a recognized problem. We have chosen not to contribute to this problem by selling anything but native plants. Read Bringing Nature Home by Doug Tallamy for further understanding of these issues! I do not profess to be an expert, but I love researching and finding plants for my clients that they are especially looking for, or to fit a special site in their garden.
This year we are thrilled to be adding native Rhododendron and Azalea species to our offerings along with other native trees and shrubs (see page on trees and shrubs). If there are any species you are looking for in particular, please ask if we can obtain them for you. We will do our very best to find what you are looking for!
